Synods on Synodality—Implementation in Local Churches

Our Assembly

On Tuesday, January 13, 2026, Father Jean-Claude Véder presented Pope Francis’s synod on synodality to the clergy of Mauritius, highlighting its implementation in the Diocese of Port-Louis.

This process (2021–2028) aims to make the Church a more participatory and inclusive community through such means as consultation, discernment, and concrete actions in the dioceses.

He calls for spiritual and missionary conversion, inviting every member of the faithful to experience a Church that is more accessible, attentive, and committed to evangelization.

Training for French-Speaking Observers at Synobs

Our Assembly

The Synodality Observatory for Africa (SynObs) brought together its French-speaking observers online for a two-day structured training session. The objective was twofold: to help them understand SynObs’s mission and to equip them to observe, in the field, the reception of the Synod’s Final Document on synodality across the continent. This continental network covers six regional episcopal conferences for the period 2026–2028.

47th General Assembly of the Union of Senegalese Clergy

From September 15 to 19, 2025, we, the priests of the Union du Clergé Sénégalais (UCS), gathered in Saint-Louis for our 47th General Assembly. 203 priests from all the dioceses of Senegal and the sub-region took part in this fraternal gathering under the theme «For a synodal and autonomous Church in the service of justice and peace in Senegal». This theme was chosen in the wake of the Synod on Synodality and is in line with the 5th General Assembly of the United Episcopal Conferences of West Africa (CERAO), held from May 05 to 12, 2025, in Dakar.

A mosaic of best practices for a visionary Church

In the Paul VI Hall, an intense afternoon was devoted to sharing experiences of implementing synodality in local Churches. More than fifteen testimonies from around the world demonstrated the feasibility of projects inspired by a spirit of sharing, collegiality, cooperation and integration of attitudes and charisms. A plurality of voices was heard, from families, religious communities, educational institutions and parishes. Grech: «Synodality cannot be taught, it must be lived, and it is contagious.»
